Tomorrow promises to be a fun day. As part of my efforts with the Boy Scouts, several of us - including myself - are working on completing the 50-miler award. Part of the award calls for giving back to the outdoors by contributing time to trail building, maintenance and other conservation work.

8 youth, 3 adults and I did about a 90 mile, 10-day backpacking trip earlier this summer. As a part of that trip, 3 hours of conservation work were credited with the other 7 hours to be done after we got home. Tomorrow, some of us will be completing the balance of the 10 hours. As a group, we are headed up to help get some cross country ski trails prepped for winter by removing brush and cleaning them up. This will help ensure the trails are safe once the snows arrive and skiers start putting down tracks.

It will be nice to see several of the kids finish up their awards, and hopefully some of them get the idea that it is not only work to contribute, but something that is worthwhile in its own right. The work of others have given us the outdoor areas we enjoy today, so it is only fair that our efforts help preserve them for future generations too.
